BILL CURLEY

I fell in love with movies as a kid. Every Friday in grade school, I would tell the sisters at Holy Family parish, “I can’t wait until tonight.” Bewildered, Sister Carl would retort, “Why?” “Because my dad is ordering a pizza from Ned’s, and when it arrives, we’re going to watch monster movies on The Big Movie. Sister Carl, that’s on channel 12 with Charlie La Force.”

“Dad, can we watch it a second time?”

“I’ll ask your mother, Billy.” This was my request sitting inside a movie theatre in Eagle River, Wisconsin in August 1964. I was 10 at the time. The movie: “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.” This iconic film 57 years later is still my favorite film.
